Today, we gather to honor and celebrate Robert Fitzsimmons, a cherished member of our community, whose dedication, leadership, and passion have left an indelible mark on all of us. Robert’s journey is one of family, heritage, and service, and it is with deep gratitude that we reflect on his contributions.
Born in the Bronx to Mary and Bob, Robert grew up in a loving Irish household, surrounded by the warmth and traditions of his heritage. Alongside his sister, Colleen, he moved to Rockland County, where he attended St. Gregory Barbarigo School and later North Rockland High School. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Binghamton College, where he earned a degree in Computer Science, setting the stage for a career that would blend technical expertise with a deep commitment to helping others.
Robert’s professional path brought him to Helen Hayes Hospital, where he not only excelled in his work but also met his beloved wife, Jill. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three wonderful children: Erin, Danny, and John. Robert’s career continued to flourish as he transitioned to Phelps Hospital and later to Northwell Health, where he remains a dedicated professional to this day.
But beyond his career and family, Robert’s Irish heritage has always been a cornerstone of his identity. From attending parades and festivals to enjoying Irish music and cheering for Notre Dame, Robert has always embraced his roots with pride. In 2013, he took this passion to new heights by joining the Ancient Order of Hibernians. What began as a small role quickly grew into something much larger. Robert’s leadership, dedication, and tireless work ethic propelled him to the position of President of our division, a role he embraced with unwavering commitment.
During his tenure, Robert wore many hats—organizing events, managing the division, overseeing finances, and so much more. He did it all with grace, humility, and a genuine love for the community. His efforts have strengthened our division and brought us closer together, leaving a legacy that will endure for years to come.
As Robert steps down from his role as President, we want to take this moment to express our deepest gratitude. Thank you, Robert, for your leadership, your passion, and your unwavering dedication to our division and to the preservation of our shared heritage. You have inspired us all, and your contributions will not be forgotten.
Here’s to Robert Fitzsimmons—a true leader, a proud Irishman, and a beloved member of our community. May your next chapter be as fulfilling and impactful as the one you’ve shared with us. Sláinte!
